At some point in late October 2014 the BBC Prison Study website received its 1,000,000th visitor.
As the graph below shows, after it was launched by George Akerlof in late 2008, the number of visitors to the site grew quite steadily over time. However, over the course of the last year, the number of visitors per month has nearly doubled.
Much of this interest can be attributed to interest in recent work in which we have shown that insights from the BBC Prison Study provide the basis for a powerful new explanation of findings from Milgram's 'Obedience to Authority' paradigm.
The majority of the site’s users continue to come from the USA (on average, 35%), the UK (20%), and China (7%). However, as can be seen from the graph below, traffic increasingly also comes from elsewhere in the world — places such as Australia, Canada, Germany, and the Netherlands (all around 4%). We also routinely see spikes of interest from countries such as Singapore, Indonesia, and Poland.
We always welcome feedback on the site from users and regularly field questions about our research from students and teachers. So if you have something you would like to ask, please drop us a line.
