We do as we are told. Or do we?

This is the strapline for Kathryn Millard's new film Shock Room which will be screened at the London School of Economics (LSE) on October 9.

As we noted in a previous news item, the film uses Millard's method of Immersive Digital Realism to revision Milgram's so-called 'Obedience to Authority' studies. The film does this by questioning Milgram's suggestion that people are programmed to conform blindly to the instructions of those in authority. Instead, in line with our engaged followership account, it points to the fact that behaviour in Milgram's studies reflects participants' identification with the Experimenter or else with the Learner — identification that varies predictably as a function of changes to the experimental set up.

Kathryn will be at the event answering questions about the film. We (Alex and Steve) will also be there to answer questions about the psychological aspects of the story it tells.

Detials about the screeening are available here. The event is free and open to all with no ticket or pre-registration required.
